We all know the saying "from little acorns, mighty oaks do grow". Well, I have proven that this can be true with the success that is CPM. Since Charman Property Maintenance (CPM) was established in 1991 as a partnership, we have grown steadily and became a limited company three years ago with a turnover in excess of £450,000. When I first set out to journey down the property management road, I had no idea where life would take me. All I can say now is that it has not disappointed me!
I have to say that I have not always harboured a desire to own and run a successful, professional company of which I could be proud: when I was younger I had a completely different set of expectations, but life has a habit of taking you where you belong and where you can achieve your potential. My inroad to this business came through cleaning rental and commercial properties. Back then was the rather sad time of property repossessions being at their zenith, and I was given the opportunity to work on the large number of repossessed properties that were currently populating the market. This enabled me to learn many other aspects of property maintenance, from decorating to gardening, plumbing to electrics through to inventory taking.
This industry is not for the faint hearted, and when I started out it was pretty much a "man's world".
There were two options, to give in or to "go with the flow" and I have never been one who likes to be beaten. With hard work, an eye for detail, sheer determination and an excellent support team, I can now be proud of all that we have achieved: a truly professional property maintenance company which provides the very best levels of service in the industry. We truly are a one-stop solution.
At CPM, we pride ourselves on our ability to find solutions for the most complex facilities and project management problems, and yet at the same time, we extend that same courtesy and care to our smaller clients – private landlords and agents who deserve the same level of service and attention as those of our larger, corporate clientele. We work to the timescales set by our clients – and of course, to their budgets also.
